What Do You Think Are The Role Of Parents Or Adults At Home In Helping Teenagers To Avoid Intentional Injury?

what do you think are the role of parents or adults at home in helping teenagers to avoid intentional injury?

The role of parents or adults at home in helping teenagers avoid intentional injury is critical. In the natural order of things, parents or adults are supposed to protect their children from any harm, including intentional injuries. Hence, it is important that parents supervise activities that could result in harm to the children. They should also educate the children on how to avoid situations where they can be harmed. Most importantly, it is the duty of the parent to educate the children not to cause intentional harm to others.

Values Formation

When talking about intentional injuries, we usually think of pointers on how to avoid being injured. But if you are a parent, you are responsible for making sure that children are not harmed and do not cause harm to others. Values formation start at home and a very supporting family will most likely develop the good character of a person making sure that they do not rape, kill or harm another person. Hence, when we see news of someone harming someone else, we see a parent failing to educate the child and we see a society failing to keep its citizen safe.

Avoid Intentional Injury

Intentional injuries are totally avoidable. They are not like accidents that happen out of the blue. If our parents provide counselling, discipline and support to their children, less people will end up as criminals. Of course, the school, the church and the community in general would have to reinforce values formation so that everyone abide by the rules of the land.

The bigger issue

The bigger issue is that parents themselves could be a victim of their own dysfunctional families, hence the cycle. This is where the school and church should come in. As enduring institutions, they are supposed to be tasked with providing education to deter any wrong behaviors. It will take sometime, of course but if our school curriculum is aimed at values formation and education, and the church supports it with spiritual formation, we will have less intentional injuries (and other criminal acts, for that matter).
